Governance Arrangements in the Management of TPDCo’s Projects
The Ministry of Tourism directs the activities of the tourism industry through the development and implementation of policies and strategic guidance on all matters relating to the agencies within its portfolio. The Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) is the central agency mandated by the Government of Jamaica to facilitate the maintenance, development and enhancement of the tourism product.
The Auditor General’s Department (AuGD) is currently planning a Performance Audit of Tourism Product Development Company. We scoped the audit to:
- Assess whether TPDCO’s institutional capacity is effective to enable the achievement of its project objectives
- Assess if TPDCo has an effective mechanism for monitoring projects through its lifecycle.
We will apply a risk-based approach in the selection of projects being implemented by TPDCo.
In scoping this study, we have considered carefully how the audit will contribute to the Auditor General’s Department wider strategic aims by:
- Promoting improvement in the use of public funds through better Governance, Project and Resource Management; and,
- Providing an indication of current activities being carried out by TPDCo to advance efforts towards achieving the National Outcomes under Vision 2030 National Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – Goal #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
