The Auditor General’s Department was nominated by the Caribbean Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (CAROSAI) to serve as its Secretariat in June 2016. Following the approval of Cabinet, the AuGD was designated on July 14, 2016 as the new hosts of the Secretariat and the Auditor General, Mrs. Pamela Monroe Ellis, appointed as Secretary general of CAROSAI.
One of the Secretariat’s first order of business was to undertake a survey to determine the mandate, needs and priorities of all its members. this review identified Procurement Audit as a critical capacity building need of fifteen SAIs. Arising from this stated need, the Secretariat, through the joint support of the World Bank (WB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will be spearheading a Cooperative Audit on Procurement.
The programme of activities commenced with a workshop in Jamaica on May 29, 2017. The workshop is scheduled for one week and will be followed by the audit-planning phase, which is expected to be completed in July 2017. The audit planning and execution phase will be managed by IDI trained regional facilitators. Mentorship and guidance throughout the programme will be provided by the facilitators using an eLearning platform which has been developed by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) for CAROSAI.
